Hey, guyzilla, what do you think of this:

It's not exactly the same as the old drive-in, but it may have a lot of advantages, too.

That IS a very trippy idea. Setting a screen out in your yard to show movies, makes me think of doing a cool Halloween party if the weather allows!

One of my neighbors did exactly this last summer, projecting his friends' short films onto the freshly-painted white wall of his garage.

A pleasant summer evening, plenty of adult beverages, good food, and everyone watched from various groupings of chairs-and-tables.

Could become even more fun if a group of films and cartoons were intercut with drive-in promos and the like.

And, many years ago, my wife and I hosted in-home movie parties, showing 16mm flicks on the walls of our apartments. Three or four short subjects/cartoons per hour; every now and then, we'd dim the "house lights" and everyone would sit on the floor.

That would be a blast. I'll have to talk to some of my neighbors about this.

Also known as "Guerilla Drive-ins," especially when using X-rated films and/or passing around illicit substances. Some folks go under the freeway and use the concrete bridges for movie screens. You can get DVD projectors to achieve the same effect, although I'd hate to think what that does to the car's battery if you're away from the house.
Once saw a "drive-in Church" in Anchorage, Alaska that used a big screen TV and CC camera in a parking lot that wasn't used on Sundays. Same idea.
